Chartered in 1938, The Rotary Club of Berlin, NJ has been providing services to Berlin Borough and Berlin Township for the past seventy years. As signified by the motto Service Above Self, Rotary’s main objective is service – in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world.
The Berlin Rotary Club has made some major impacts to our communities over their seventy years of existence. During the 1940’s, the Club was instrumental in establishing the “Inter-Community Civic Association” that is now known as the Inter-Community Celebration Association (I.C.C.A.) – the organization responsible for this parade and the festivities in the park on the 4th of July for the past 61 years.
In 1968, the Berlin Rotary Club helped to raise $10,000 to purchase an ambulance for the community. For years the Club has contributed to the children’s Athletic Associations in the Borough and Township as well as providing cash awards to the 8th grade and high school senior students in both communities. Annually, we host Santa Claus for over one hundred smiling children in our communities. The Club provided the Gazebo and park bench at Berlin Borough Hall and made a significant contribution towards the electronic sign at Luke Avenue in Berlin Township. Recently, a defibrillator was donated to Berlin Borough and assistance was provided to improve a playground in Berlin Township. Annually, Thanksgiving food baskets are provided to assist St. Vincent DePaul in serving the less fortunate. Food and other items have been sent to members of a platoon the Club adopted in Iraq.
On an International level, we have raised thousands of dollars since 1985 in Rotary’s effort to eradicate polio in the world. We provide annual support to an orphanage in Santa Domingo and, in recent years, have provided shelter to displaced families in various disaster areas around the world.
