NEWSLETTER FOR AUGUST 30, 2010

*  Pres. Mark started the meeting in the usual manner and asked if anyone knows if Jim Knight is out of the hospital??  We will find out ASAP.

*  Guests tonight included Tom Dickert, Randy's guest and Tony Primo, Vic's guest.  Dan B. brought his lovely wife, Nina.

*  Mary reported on the dictionaries --- we must decide whether to nix the project or give them out.  Due to the computer, the dictionary may be going the way of the dinosaur.
Carole suggested that we go ahead with the project because they're cost effective and also a good way to get the name of Rotary out there.  It is a district-wide project and we should support it.  Vic agreed and said we need to talk to the people in charge and follow-up on their usage.  Last year we gave out 263 dictionaries.

*  Carole told us that she will pass out a sign-up sheet for Joy's 10/8 golf event after Labor Day.  You can go to our website and print out a form or E-mail Carole and bring a check next meeting.  You don't have to be a 4-some to participate.

*  GOVERNOR'S VISIT ---10/18!!

*  Thank-You notes were passed around tonight for the donations to Joy's golf outing and our scholarships.

*  LIFELOCK, the company that protects you from identity theft has partnered with Rotary to give a discount to any members who join.  The annual fee is about $100 with a $10 discount.  Please see Mark.

*  The Rotary Leadership Institute is Friday, 10/8 if you are interested in attending.  Unfortunately, it's the same day as the golf outing.  Mark stated: " GOLF WILL RULE"!!

*  Alan reported on the 15-week club.  A bunch of people still owe $$, so don't start crying if your # is pulled and you don't get a red cent!!  Vic paid tonight and won tonight--- a whopping $14+change! ( still a little better than the $1.10 I won a few years ago!!)

*  Mark showed us a piece of "plastic eagle" from the top of our flag that was apparently broken off.  GOT MILK ! , I mean,GLUE??!

*  Dan B. reported that the SUMMER PARTY will be at his house on 9/20 from 6:30 'til ??
PRICE IS $20/person which includes food and drink.  Vic and Dan will be there from noon on, so come early if you wish.  We have a lot of liquor left from previous events and we need to get this back.  Please contact Dan or Vic if you know it's whereabouts.  A sign-up sheet was passed around.  Vic will collect the $$.  Menu includes filet, ribs, chicken veggies and dessert.  Our goal is to enjoy the evening with fun, food, activities and fellowship.

*  Heard around the table section:  Mary asked "Jose" our server for some tea this evening.  Unfortunately, his name is "Juan".  Surprisingly, she got the tea!!!
Speak of the devil, Mary had a birthday this month so we all sang (if you can call it singing!!).  HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARY!!

*  If you need a Rotary hat, Vic has some.

*  Our program tonight was given by 3 representatives from "America Approved Energy Services".  Some noteworthy points were:

They can deliver electricity at a  8--12 % discounted rate and 20% on the commercial side
Can help Rotarians by paying out royalties monthly
The customer appreciation program can save you $$ on entertainment and travel

*  our 50/50 winner was one of our guests, Tom Dickert

P.S.  Please check your E-Mail for recent important info on our summer party and the Rotary Yellow Pages ( with deadlines involved).

HAVE A GREAT, SAFE HOLIDAY WEEKEND!!
